The purpose of the Foundation is to promote the protection of the environment and the climate as well as the promotion of science and research. The purposes will be achieved by measures that serve to promote the production and use of Green Hydrogen and other climate-neutral energy carriers (climate-neutral or defossilised energy carriers) at national and international level. An important part of the foundation's work is to conduct and encourage research in this field. Focus is on research that contributes to rapid decarbonisation of the economy.
The H2Global foundation is conducting the following research-projects:
Duration: 06.2023 - 06.2026
The H2Global Knowledge Hub extends and supports the ongoing work of the H2Global Foundation by establishing a knowledge and dialogue platform for the market ramp-up of sustainable hydrogen and its derivatives. Various workshops will be held with stakeholders from business, science, politics, and society on topics such as market environment, supply, logistics and value chains, scaling, infrastructure, standardisation and certification, production, and trade-offs.
Duration: 05.2023 - 12.2025
The research project is dedicated to the question of how sustainable hydrogen partnerships between Africa and Europe can be established in cooperation. The project will look at integrated value chains, local value creation, export opportunities and the use of the H2Global instrument adapted to the needs of the partner countries.
Opportunities and Risks of the International Market Ramp-Up for Developing and Emerging Countries in Cooperation with the Private Sector
Duration: 09.2021 - 05.2023
The project aims to identify the determinants of an equal participation of developing and emerging countries in the international market ramp-up of green hydrogen and PtX products. It focuses on the legal, economic and technical analysis of the newly emerging supply and demand markets, the market position and investment conditions. Concrete recommendations for action for the promotion of cooperation with the private sector are also identified.
As part of H2Global’s research activities, the Foundation engages its Donors through working groups. These working groups are designed to gather valuable practical feedback from the Donors on the analytical work prepared by the research team. Each working group has a focus topic, which corresponds to key issues affecting clean hydrogen market ramp-up. H2Global compiles the results of the analytical work and discussions into reports that will be launched publicly and made available on the website.
For 2024, the following three working groups have been formed:
The Foundation expects the working groups to provide knowledge and recommendations to the public and, within the framework of its statutory purposes, to policymakers to support a rapid market ramp-up of clean hydrogen and its derivatives.
In 2022-2023, the Foundation held four working groups, which discussed crucial issues pertaining clean hydrogen market ramp-up: i. Standardization, certification, tradability, ii. Supply chain development and risk management, iii. Funding instruments and double funding, and iv. Investment funds and financing approaches. The minutes of the meetings can be found below.
As part of the foundation’s analysis & research activities the following research projects are currently being tendered:
